2014 Section Officer Leadership Nominations

The Community Health Planning and Policy Development (CHPPD) Section of the American Public Health Association is seeking nominations for 8 CHPPD Leadership Positions for the term starting November 2014.To nominate a colleague or yourself, please submit the completed CHPPD Section Officer Nomination Form (word format, 2 pages) by Friday, February 28, 2014 to the chair-elect (CHPPD Nominations Chair). The positions are:

 

  • Chair-Elect - 1 opening; 2 year term – 2014-2016; followed by 2 year term as Chair – 2016-2018
  • Secretary-Elect - 1 opening; 1 year term – 2014-2015; followed by 1 year term as Secretary – 2015-2016
  • Section Councilors - 2 openings; 3 year terms – 2014-2017
  • Governing Councilors  - 4 openings; 2 year terms – 2014-2016

These positions offer the opportunity to actively participate in a national-level organization with the specific goal to promote and advance community health planning and policy development as essential elements of public health at the national, state, community, and organizational levels. Positions are filled on a voluntary basis and require serving as an officer of the CHPPD Section.  Self-nominations are accepted and encouraged. All terms will begin at the conclusion of this year’s APHA annual meeting in October 2012.

Newly elected officers will be announced by July 2014.

Chair-Elect:

·      Acts for the Chairperson in the absence of that officer.

·      Assists the Chairperson in giving leadership to Section activities.

·      Assists, when called upon by the Chairperson, in the conduct of the Section meetings.

·      Recommends names to Section Council for appointments of chairpersons-elect of committees as indicated in the CHPPD Section manual (http://www.apha.org/membergroups/sections/aphasections/chppd/roster/chppd_member_manual.htm). Each year this will include approximately one-half of the standing committees. Committee chairpersons-elect will serve with the committee chairpersons during the final year of their appointments and will then serve as committee chairpersons in the year the Section Chairperson-Elect is Section Chairperson.

 

Secretary-Elect:

·         Assists the Secretary with the duties of the office.

·         Attends meetings of the Section Council.

·         Receives and reviews copies of all correspondence.

·         Obtains all records and files from the out-going Secretary.

·         Acts for the Secretary in his or her absence.

 

Section Councilor:

·      The Section Councilor serves on the Council of the Section and shall attend annual meetings of the American Public Health Association, and business meetings of the Section.

·      The Section Councilor shall participate on conference calls and communicate by emails between annual meetings to conduct the business of the Council of the Section.

·      The Section Councilor shall chair program sessions sponsored by the Section, as requested by the Chairperson of the Program Committee.

·      The Section Councilor shall represent the Council on committees of the Section Council.

·      The Section Council shall propose subjects for consideration and possible action by the Section Council and/or members and identify, interpret and promote the role of the Section in contributing to Association deliberations and actions in relation to matters that are of special concern to the members of the Section.

 

Governing Councilor:

·      CHPPD Governing Council Representatives are ex-officio members of the Section Council.

·      The Governing Councilor serves on the Council of the Section and shall attend annual meetings of the American Public Health Association, Governing Council meetings of the Association, and business meetings of the Section.

·      The Governing Councilor shall participate on conference calls and communicate by emails between annual meetings to conduct the business of the Council of the Section.

·      The Governing Councilor shall chair program sessions sponsored by the Section, as requested by the Chairperson of the Program Committee.

·      The Governing Councilor shall represent the Council on committees of the Section Council.

·      The Governing Councilor shall propose subjects for consideration and possible action by the Section Council and/or members and identify, interpret and promote the role of the Section in contributing to Association deliberations and actions in relation to matters that are of special concern to the members of the Section.

·      The Governing Councilors shall approve, process, and publicize Section resolutions passed by the Section Council and membership representing policies of the Section and represent the Section at the Governing Council of the Association.

 

Section Council:

·      The Section Council acts as the governing body of the Section by formulating rules of procedures, plans, and policies of the section, promote and act on Section membership, develop goals related to issues and concerns of community health planning and address these by the appointment of task forces and/or ad hoc committees, and make general recommendations in relation to the annual meeting program.

·      The Section Council reports annually to the Governing Council through the Executive Board on Section plans, policies and activities, considers and transmits to the Governing Council resolutions originating in the Section.
