APHA Annual Meeting - 2012 October 27 – 31 (140th Meeting) San Francisco, CA
"Prevention and Wellness Across the Life Span",

 

The Chiropractic Health Care section had a strong presence at the 2012 APHA annual conference. Platform presentations were made on a wide variety of topics. Sessions included:

 

·         Chiropractic, public health and under-served communities

·         Musculoskeletal pain and disability as a public health priority

·         Innovation in public health education within the chiropractic colleges

·         Chiropractic Research: Current status and updates

·         Policy, regulation, comparative and cost effectiveness research

 

 

 

The business meetings held on Sunday and Monday evenings were very informative and were well-attended.

 

 

 

The 2012 annual CHC awards were presented by Lori Byrd, MS and Bart Green, DC. The award recipients included:

Bill Meeker, DC – Lifetime Achievement Award

Claire Johnson, DC, MSEd – Distinguished Service Award

Michael Schneider, DC – Rising Star Award

 

Awards were also given in recognition of services performed in the past year.

 

 

 

The CHC booth, organized by Jason Napuli, DC provided the Expo attendees a professional and informative place to discuss and obtain information about how chiropractic is involved with public health.

 

Other distinguished CHC members attended both meetings. The photo above is from the first business meeting that was held Sunday evening.

 

The next CHC annual meeting will be in Boston, MA November 2-6, 2013.  Chiropractic has much to offer in the area of public health. Please read the APHA description of the conference and consider joining us!

The 141st APHA Annual Meeting theme, Think Global, Act Local: Best Practices Around the World, presents an opportunity to discuss how we can positively impact public health locally, nationally, and internationally.

 

Theme related sessions at the Annual Meeting will look at a full range of environmental, social and behavioral issues that impact health both locally and world-wide.

APHA Annual Meeting - 2011 October 29 - November 2 Washington DC(139th Meeting) Healthy Communities Promote Healthy Minds and Bodies

 

The Chiropractic Health Care section had a strong presence at the 2011 APHA annual conference. The program chair Dr. Michael Schneider organized five scientific sessions; 17 platform presentations were made on a wide variety of topics. Eight presentations were included at joint sessions that were organized by Drs. Bart Green and Will Evans. Implementing Health Reform: A Public Health Approach
APHA 2011 Midyear Meeting, Chicago, IL - June 23-25, 2011

Purpose of APHA Midyear Meeting: The midyear American Public Health Association meeting in June 2011 focused on healthcare reform. “The 2011 Midyear Meeting brought together over 600 public health practitioners interested in learning what the Affordable Care Act means for public health, wellness and prevention. Attendees participated in sessions ranging from fiscal implications and technology to legal challenges and engaging policy makers.”

CHC Participation: The APHA Leadership asked for one representative from each of APHA’s 27 sections to attend this meeting and complete the following duties:

1. Attend the full meeting and a luncheon for State Affiliate and Section leaders
2. Participate in quarterly conference calls to discuss the topics emerging from the Midyear Meeting.
3. Be the point of contact on health reform for his or her Section/SPIG
4. Write a report at the end of the retreat to share with Section leaders and disseminate to Section members
5. Participate in face-to-face discussions at the Annual Meeting on healthcare reform.
 
Attending on Behalf of the CHC

For the APHA Chiropractic Health Care section, Claire Johnson (APHA-CHC Communication Chair) was selected to represent the CHC Section. Also attending the APHA Midyear meeting was Lori Byrd (CHC Chair Elect).

Summary report: The purpose of this summary report is to disseminate the information from this midyear meeting to the constituents of the APHA Chiropractic Health Care Section, as specifically instructed by the APHA: “Suggestions as to how your section can move forward in getting your members more educated and involved in health reform efforts.”
