General Inquiries

If you have general questions about the ATOD section or about the website, contact us.

Specific Inquiries

Fundraising Opportunities

The Alcohol, Tobacco  & Other Drugs Section depends on support from partner organizations to help fund our programs, initiatives and/or our advocacy efforts.  Sponsors also make our awards ceremony, networking opportunities, and related events a success.  If you would like to contribute to further the mission of ATOD, please contact Cynthia Hallett at cynthia.hallett@no-smoke.org

Policy Opportunities

The ATOD is interested in advocacy and policy issues related to Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs.  We would love to hear from you.  If you have an idea that you think we should sign on to, please contact our Action Board Representative, Lenny Lamkin at Lenny_lamkin@comcast.net.  Be sure to put “APHA Policy” in the subject line.

Abstract Reviewing

The ATOD section needs people to review abstracts again this year.  Each year we receive 500 or more abstract submissions, which are peer reviewed to guide us in assembling the annual program.  Most reviewers find the process takes about 3 hours of their time.  In February, after the abstract submission deadline, reviewers receive 20 to 25 abstracts to read and score.  We usually have 2 to 3 weeks for this process, which can be done entirely on line.  The section relies heavily on the expertise of our members to inform our final decisions on abstracts that will appear in the program.  Are you interested in helping?  If so, please send your name and full contact information, as well as your topic area (alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs, and your area of expertise/experience) to our program chair, Linda Bosma, at aphalinda@bosmaconsulting.com.  Your input is important and valued!

Newsletter Inquiries

The ATOD is always interested in new and exciting items for our newsletter. We would love to hear from you! If you have something to share, please contact our Newsletter Editor, Meelee Kim at mlkim@brandeis.edu. Be sure to put “ATOD Newsletter” in the subject line.

Student Forum

If you are a student and are interested in finding out more about the ATOD Section, interested in getting involved in the section, or interested in what kind of opportunities we have for students, we want to hear from you!  Feel free to contact Justin Byron, our Student Assembly Section Liaison at mbyron@jhsph.edu. Be sure to add “APHA Student” in the subject line.

Website Inquiries

We want to hear from you if you have an idea to improve our website!  Though much of the template of our website is limited, we are always seeking new ways to make it better.  Please contact our website coordinator, Mark Parascandola, at paramark@mail.nih.gov.  Be sure to put “ATOD Website” in the subject line.

ATOD Section Listserv

The ATOD section has set up a listserv to help members communicate with each other on matters relating to policy, practice, and research in the areas our section covers. The listserv is a mechanism to quickly inform others of developments, solicit assistance on matters of ATOD policy and its implementation, and alert our members to opportunities and events of interest.

Control of the listserv will remain exclusively with the ATOD section, and all listings will be kept strictly confidential. Messages will be disseminated only after the sender and message content have been "vetted" as appropriate for our section.

To join the listserv, e-mail your name and e-mail address to the Listserv Coordinator, Marilyn Daley, at daley@brandeis.edu.

To provide a message for posting (after vetting), e-mail the material to the Listserv Coordinator, Marilyn Daley, at daley@brandeis.edu. You do not have to be a member of the list serve to post messages.

Tell your colleagues about upcoming events, conferences, programs, research, opportunities, or anything you are interested in!
