During the 2009 APHA Annual Meeting, Gary Rozier, DDS , MPH , Alice Horowitz, PhD, and Gary Podschun gave a presentation on health literacy in dentistry. The session covered preliminary results from the American Dental Association’s survey of dental team members that looked at health literacy and health communication related knowledge and practices of dental team members. The ADA National Advisory Committee on Health Literacy in Dentistry, of which Drs. Rozier and Horowitz are members, plans to publish the results of the survey in 2010. This APHA course is also described the ADA ’s Health Literacy in Dentistry Action Plan: 2010-2015, which is now available on ADA.org.  The ADA plan will be discussed, along with the HHS National Action Plan for Improving Health Literacy and a Children’s Dental Health Project initiative, during the 2010 National Oral Health Conference.
