It is time to begin to plan for the 132nd Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, DC, November 6-10, 2004. We need your help to make the Mental Health Section Booth interesting and inviting to catch the eye of visitors to the exhibit hall. Please think about the work that you have been doing this year and what policy reports, briefs, journal articles, tools, conference announcements, and related materials you can share with visitors to the section’s booth. The booth is an opportunity to meet section members and recruit new members, as well as a way to communicate your work to the thousands of public health professionals and students attending the meeting.

Please think about planning to volunteer for a shift at the Mental Health Section Booth. It is truly enjoyable, time well spent, and a great way to network, and raise awareness about mental health issues. As we get closer to the meeting I will share the work schedule with you so that you can choose your preferred time to staff the booth. I am looking forward to working with you to make the 132nd meeting a rousing success. If you have questions or ideas I would really like to hear from you, please e-mail me at gloria.thornton@wellpoint.com.

Forty-year Anniversaries

APHA recently released the list of individuals celebrating their 40th APHA anniversary in 2004. The section would like to recognize and congratulate two Mental Health Section members on that list -- R. W. Finner, MD and Monroe Winter Spero, MD, MPH.

Annual Meeting attendees can receive full access to these expanded sessions by registering for E-ssentialLearning on the Annual Meeting registration form. Special introductory discounted fees of $25 for Annual Meeting session presenters, $50 for APHA members (who are not session presenters), and $100 for non-members and are in effect for anyone registering for the full APHA Annual Meeting by the October 1st pre-registration deadline. These fees will increase substantially for anyone registering on-site at the Annual Meeting in Washington.

Log-in information and password access to these EssentialLearning
sessions will be provided to registrants immediately following theAnnual Meeting.

NEW! Presenters Able to Upload PowerPoint Presentations in Advance

LCD projectors and computers are now included as part of the standard audiovisual package in each session room. This new technology will enable presenters to upload their PowerPoint presentations in advance of the meeting and have them pre-loaded on the APHA session computers. Individual presentations then begin with a click of the mouse. The cost and inconvenience of bringing a computer to the annual meeting has been eliminated for presenters allowing them to take advantage of new technologies and be a part of the E-ssentialLearning experience.
