UN Ministerial Meeting on Road Safety and Decade of Action (2010-2020) on Road Safety

In March 2008, ICEHS Section Chair Dr. Joyce Pressley and ICEHS Section Member and then-APHA President Dr. Linda DeGutis, and ICEHS Section Councilor Dr. Bella Dinh-Zarr participated in the United Nations General Assembly meeting on road safety.  This General Assembly led to a UN resolution on road safety that included a call for the first-ever Ministerial Meeting on Road Safety, which will take place in Moscow in November 2009.  It is expected that this meeting of ministers of transportation, health, and other high-level government officials will result in an official UN Decade of Action for Road Safety (2010-2020) similar to other UN Decades (for Disabled Persons, Malaria, Human Rights Education, etc.) and greater investment in road traffic injury prevention.  For more information, please contact: T.
