As APHA’s 139th Annual Meeting & Exposition
approaches (Oct.
29-Nov. 2 in Washington, DC..), the Environment Section Program Planning
Committee
has been hard at work crafting a strong program for you. This year, the
APHA
Environment Section received over 200 individual abstract submissions
and a
record 39 proposals for full sessions. This
year’s selection of oral and poster sessions will highlight the meeting
theme,
“Healthy Communities Promote Healthy Minds & Bodies,” with
explorations of
theory, practice and public policy across the spectrum of environmental
health
issues. The Section values the invited sessions and individual abstracts
as key
opportunities to develop and maintain the national dialogue on
persistent and
emerging environmental public health issues.
Additionally, the Program Planning Committee is excited about the
submissions from professionals who have recently joined APHA and have
chosen
the Environment Section as their APHA “home,” including urban planners,
nurses,
policy organizations, and transportation experts. In
addition to the regular Environment
Section program, look forward to the annual Calver Lecture and luncheon,
and opportunities to
network with your peers in environmental health.
This year will also mark the 100th
Anniversary of
the Environment Section of APHA. Please
keep on the lookout for 100th Anniversary themed scientific
sessions. And don’t forget about the
100th Anniversary reception being held on
Halloween
night. This reception will be held after
the Monday evening socials so we look forward to seeing you there.
In closing, the Environment Section’s Program
Planning Committee is very appreciative of the high-quality submissions
that will
comprise this year’s scientific program. Furthermore, the development of
this
program would not have been possible without the dedication of our
numerous
abstract reviewers. We cannot thank you enough.
