Three chiropractors received awards recognizing their dedication, enthusiasm, and prominent contributions to the Chiropractic Health Care (CHC) Section at the APHA Annual meeting in San Diego, Oct. 25-29, 2008,
The first Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon Rand Baird, DC, MPH, who is a founding father of the CHC Section and for over 33 years has promoted public health nationally and worldwide. He actively recruits a large number of new CHC members each year and has been recognized for recruiting more new APHA members than anyone else in APHA history. He has held almost every position in the CHC Section and has demonstrated outstanding leadership.
The Distinguished Service Award for 2008 was presented to Elaine Cooperstein, DC, who has been a member of the CHC Section of APHA for over 12 years and for the last two years has filled the role of CHC Section chair. She masterfully handled her duties during her two-term tenure as chair and has demonstrated exemplary performance spanning numerous years.
The new Rising Star Award was given to Jonathon Egan, DC, MPH, a highly motivated and active younger member who contributed significantly to Section activities and improvements. He has written a number of articles for Dynamic Chiropractic and displayed leadership by serving as the membership chair and Section Councilor. In New York state he is part of the Seneca County Board of Health and has established a public health club for students at New York Chiropractic College.
"I am extremely proud of the significant contributions that these three CHC members have demonstrated over their many years of service to the APHA. We continue to grow and contribute to public health care thanks to the outstanding activities of people such as Drs. Baird, Cooperstein, and Egan," remarked Dr. John Stites, current CHC Section chair.
