At the 133rd APHA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia in December, the Chiropractic Health Care Section announced that three of its members were receiving Distinguished Service Awards for 2005. These awards were presented to:
• Lisa Killinger, DC. of Palmer Chiropractic College
• John Pammer, Jr., DC, DACBR
• Michael Perillo, DC, MPH
Both Dr. Killinger and Dr. Pammer are previous chairs of the Chiropractic Health Care Section and have served in various other leadership positions. Dr. Perillo did pioneer work on the model public health curriculum for chiropractic college students, for which he received a HRSA grant. In addition, a Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Service was bestowed upon Rand Baird, DC, MPH, by APHA Executive Director Georges Benjamin, MD, MPH. Dr. Baird is also a former chair of the CHC Section and one of its founders. He was again recognized for recruiting more new members to APHA than anyone else in its history. The Chiropractic Health Care Section is one of the most active disciplines within the APHA. Doctors and students of chiropractic are strongly encouraged to join APHA, which is the oldest, largest and most influential public health association in the world. There are many opportunities for public service within APHA. Get more information on the Chiropractic Health Care Section at www.APHA.org .
