The APHA Annual Meeting and Exposition in Phildadelphia, Dec. 10-14, 2005, was a success. It premiered a platform to discover exceptional practices, share latest research in the field, network with expert colleagues and attend the largest public health exposition in the nation. It is estimated that more than 11,000 public health professionals from around the world came together to discuss the pressing issues in public health for 2005 and the years to come. Issues that dominated much of the discussions were the impact of the 2005 Gulf Coast hurricanes on the U.S. health care system.
This APHA 133rd Annual Meeting was especially important to the Chiropractic Health Care Section because the Section marked its 10-year anniversary. On Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, the CHC was honored by APHA Executive Director Georges C. Benjamin, MD, FACP, and APHA President Walter Tsou, MD, MPH, during the Public Health Awards Reception and Ceremony. Congratulations to the CHC for celebrating 10 years of successes and achievements!
Highlights of this year's meeting included speeches and presentations from U.S. Sen. John Kerry, Arkansas Governor and National Governors Association Chairman Mike Huckabee and public health officials from the Gulf Coast.
