Growing Older in America: The Health & Retirement Study

The Health and Retirement Study (HRS), sponsored by the National
Institute on Aging, follows more than 20,000 men and women over 50,
offering insight into the changing lives of the older U.S.
population. Growing Older in America: The Health & Retirement Study
describes the breadth and depth of the HRS to help familiarize a
broad range of researchers; policymakers; media; and organizations
concerned with health, economics, and aging with this data resource.
This data book describes the HRS's development and features and
offers a snapshot of research findings based on analyses of the
Study's data. Sections of the report look at older adults' health,
work and retirement, income and wealth, and family characteristics
and intergenerational transfers. More than 65 figures and tables
illustrate the text.

---                              Support needed for our Award Reception

We aree about $3,000 short in our Section Enrichment Fund to pay for our Award Reception, Monday Evening, November 5, 2007. Last year we spent $6,500 for both hot and cold selections plus the personnel to serve and clean up. The fellowship was great and the food was gone in the first hour. It food was great too! This year I expect more of the same--good fellowship and more great food but at a price! Hotel food is expensive, but we have no alternative. If you can contribute please send you check, made out to "APHA," to Gerald M. Eggert, Ph.D., Development Chair, GHS, 28 Lawton St., Rochester, NY 14607. I will bird-dog you contribution so it is deposited in our Section account at APHA. Many sections have accounts so we need to insure your funds get deposited to our Section Account!!!

Many thanks,

Gerry Eggert, Ph.D.

2--                                  GH Section Auction Raffle--Monday Evening, Nov 5

I purchased some very nice silver and pottery/glass at an upstate New York Auction last month. I also have some Art Deco items. I would like to know what other items our Section members plan to donate. You have been very generous over the years. Would you believe we have raised over $40,000 in the past 5 years with our Auction/Raffle? Every dollar has gone into Award endowments. Many thanks to all who participate in the fun and worthwhile event! Please contact me at GMEggert@AOL.Com if you have a donation. That way I will know how much to bring myself. APHA does supply the appropriate paperwork needed to claim a deduction on your federal income tax.

Gerry Eggert, Ph.D.
