Close to 160 abstracts were accepted for presentation in the 2004 Gerontological Health Section (GHS) program. Sixty of these will be in poster sessions, with the remaining in oral sessions. Of the 22 oral sessions, nine were invited or organized around a theme or specific issue. These special oral sessions include such topics as:

  • the future of aging policy;

  • lessons from the Program for All-Inclusive Care of the Elderly (PACE);

  • nutrition and physical activity;

  • a Medicare consumer model for rural health;

  • Medicare after the prescription drug benefit;

  • an agenda for the environment and older adults;

  • a data warehouse on health and aging;

  • best practice physical activity programs for older adults;

  • older women and public health;

  • and, of course, the special GHS Awards session for first-place winners!

In closing, Kathy Sykes and I would like to thank all of the GHS members who have volunteered to moderate sessions.
