Transdisciplinary Tobacco Use Research Centers (TTURC) held an investigator meeting in April 2006 to discuss current projects and goals. Funded by NCI, NIDA, and NIAAA, TTURCs, facilitate a transdisciplinary approach to reduce the disease burden of tobacco use. Currently, TTURC investigators are working on a diverse range of projects, including studies of the pharmacogenetics of nicotine addiction, cessation, prevention, and international tobacco control. Other studies underway in this group include mouse models of neurocognitive effects of smoking, examinations of psychiatric comorbidity, and the physiology of gender differences in the role of stress in relapse.
