For those who are interested, here are some readings I recommend.  The first article provides a good basic review of smoking cessation.  The second article relates to how patients transition through the stages of smoking cessation and the predictors of change.  This article is good to read after the first article.  The third and fourth articles deal with the International Tobacco Control Four Country Survey (United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia) that studied the epidemiology of smokers, cigarette purchase patterns, smoke-free homes, predictors of cessation and role of the media.  The last article talks about Topiramate and preliminary findings as a smoking cessation aid.
