APHA represents a broad array of health officials, educators, environmentalists, policy-makers and other health providers at all levels, working both within and outside governmental organizations and educational institutions. Our issues include those affecting personal and environmental health, including federal and state funding for health programs, pollution control, programs and policies related to chronic and infectious diseases, a smoke-free society, professional education in public health and health education and consumer education material.
APHA actively serves the public and its own members through its advocacy, publications, annual meeting and consumer education efforts. The tangible benefits of annual membership in APHA include: monthly subscriptions to both the prestigious American Journal of Public Health and the award-winning newspaper The Nation’s Health. Other benefits include the very current online All Member News, online Section Newsletters, registration discounts for our APHA Annual Meeting and book discounts, plus the option to participate in active Section listservs and various leadership opportunities.
The achievements of APHA are the achievements of the thousands of federal, state, community, and academic health professionals and citizens who seek to assure the conditions in which people can be healthy. Whether APHA is proposing solutions based on research, helping to set public health practice standards, or working closely with national and international health agencies to improve health worldwide, its mission is to always strive to improve public health for everyone.
