The Boston Commission for Persons with Disabilites has more information on getting around Boston.
Each year APHA conducts a detailed accessibility survey of all official APHA hotels. These surveys (completed by the hotels) provide information about accessible entrances, parking and drop-off areas and information regarding accessible public ares, guest rooms, meeting rooms, restaurants, hotel amenities and assistive devices. Use this information to select the hotel that best meets your needs.
The Online Housing Form also provides critical accessibility information and descriptions of each hotel. Make hotel reservations as early as possible as there are a limited number of accessible rooms available at each property. Housing will open June 3.
Hotel Access Training
To further facilitate an accessible meeting, APHA offers free accessibility training to the staff at the meeting hotels, convention center and vendors. This training is designed to heighten awareness and educate hotel and convention center staff on disability and accessibility issues prior to the arrival of APHA attendees.
Complimentary shuttle service will be provided between the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) and the official APHA Annual Meeting hotels. The Westin Boston Waterfront, Seaport Hotel and Renaissance Boston Waterfront will NOT be serviced by the regular shuttle buses because they are within walking distance of the BCEC.
Wheelchair accessible buses are available on every route. Preliminary shuttle routes and daily schedules will be posted online starting June 3. Final schedules will be available on site.
On Call Accessible Transportation
Wheelchair accessible van transportation can also be scheduled upon request between official APHA hotels and the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center for attendees with disabilities. Visit or call the Shuttle Bus Service Desk located just inside the shuttle drop off area at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center or the APHA Access booth in the registration area to make arrangements in advance. Phone numbers will be published on all shuttle signage, in the Final Program and in the badge mailing packet. Please provide the shuttle company with advance notice of when and where you will need a pick up.
Taxi Service for those with Mobility Constraints
Registrants with mobility issues who are unable to utilize APHA shuttle buses or the on call accessible transportation option, may utilize cab service to and from official APHA hotels and the BCEC. APHA will reimburse for taxi fares between official APHA Annual Meeting properties. Submit all receipts to APHA (c/o Conventions Dept., 800 I Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001) no later than December 2, 2013.
