APHA, in conjunction with the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center, offered a free webinar series on health and active transportation. The archived webinars are below.
Archived webinar (11/13/2012) - "How public health professionals are supporting trails and walking programs". To encourage appropriate levels of physical activity in their communities, public health practitioners across the nation are getting involved in promoting walking programs and trail use. Presenters included Attila Bality, with the Rivers, Trails & Conservation Assistance Program in the National Park Service’s New Mexico office; Dr. Linda Macdonald, a physician in Albuquerque and member of the Prescription Trails steering committee; Russell Hirschler, the executive director of the Upper Valley Trails Alliance in Vermont, and Becky Lewandoski, the Upper Valley Trails Alliance’s program coordinator; and Judy Corwin, administrative director of marketing and public relations, The Corvallis Clinic, in Oregon.
Archived webinar (9/19/2012) — "Communities Putting Prevention to Work: Using walking and bicycling as ways to promote public health". Presenters included Paul Hunting, CDC Division of Community Health, Mary Balluff, chief, Community Health and Nutrition Services, Douglas County (Neb.) Health Department, Kerri Peterson, executive director Live Well Omaha and Alisa Haushalter, program manager, Nashville Communities Putting Prevention to Work Campaign.
Archived webinar (7/24/2012) — "Using Health Impact Assessments to connect bicycle and pedestrian safety and health". Presenters included Bethany Rogerson, senior associate for the Health Impact Project, a collaboration of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and The Pew Charitable Trusts; Jim Skoog, Community Health Specialist with St. Louis County, Minn, Public Health and Human Services; Ellen Pillsbury, Senior Planner with the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission (ARDC) Regional Planning Division; and Brendon Haggerty, planner, Clark County, Wash. public health department.
2012 APHA webinar series: Health and equity in transportation: promising methods and modes to improve health outcomes
APHA hosted a free webinar series on critical health and equity issues within the transportation sector. These three, 60-minute webinars explored the ties between public health and increased use of public transportation; reduced injuries, particularly for children and young drivers; and reduced inequities from increased access to goods and services.
