Statement attributable to: Mohammad N. Akhter, MD, MPH Executive Director
"The American Public Health Association supports President Bush's efforts to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan. The gesture shows that the United States is at peace with the citizens of this war-ravaged country and cares about its people. The relief supplies will help ensure that the Afghan people do not become innocent victims of this conflict."
"We further applaud the President for not acting rashly and taking the time to build a coalition of nations to confront terrorism. Making the effort to enlist the support of these countries shows that terrorism is a global concern and affects the health and welfare of people worldwide."
