Priorities

Overarching Priorities: APHA is the oldest organization of public health professionals and represents more than 50,000 members from over 50 public health occupations. We focus our advocacy and policy work around three overarching priority areas:

• Rebuilding the Public Health Infrastructure
• Ensuring Access to Health Care
• Eliminating Health Disparities

2009 Legislative Priorities: APHA will be involved in a number of legislative issued during the 111th Congress. This year, our federal legislative advocacy priorities include:

• Public Health Funding
• Health Reform
• Transportation Issues
• Global Climate Change Legislation
• FDA Regulation of Tobacco Products

APHA also has the flexibility to quickly act, when appropriate, on other pressing public health issues that may not easily be categorized under the three overarching priority areas or that fall outside of our yearly legislative priorities.
