Priorities

Overarching Priorities: APHA is the oldest organization of public health professionals and represents more than 50,000 members from over 50 public health occupations. APHA's activities are guided by three overarching priority areas:

• Building public health infrastructure and capacity
• Ensuring the right to health and health care
• Creating health equity

2013 Legislative Priorities

• Appropriations and funding (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Health Resources and Services Administration, funding for mental health programs)
• Protecting the Affordable Care Act (including the Prevention and Public Health Fund)
• Violence prevention/reducing gun violence
• Reauthorization of the farm bill 

Resources

APHA also has the flexibility to act, when appropriate, on other pressing public health issues that may not easily be categorized under the three overarching priority areas or that fall outside of our yearly legislative priorities.
