In addition to APHA’s 25,000 members, the organization represents another 25,000 individuals who are members of our affiliated state and regional public health associations and others who are committed to creating a health global society. APHA members and staff work closely with Members of Congress, regulatory agencies and other public health organizations to ensure that public health is priority in the legislative and policy-making process.
The policy statement development process for the Association is designed to be open to full participation of the membership and to ensure careful review by appropriate APHA boards, committees and other membership entities. Policy statements adopted through this process provide a record of the Association's stance on a variety of public health issues and reflect the diverse interests of the APHA membership. - Deadline for 2014 policy statement proposal submissions, Feb. 19: Members interested in submitting policy statement submissions for the 2014 policy statement development process should send proposals to firstname.lastname@example.org by Feb. 19, 2014, 11:59 p.m. EST. Note that revisions have been made to the APHA policy statement review process and updates will be posted by Dec. 20, 2013.
- Policy Development Process: At the 2013 APHA Annual Meeting, the Governing Council voted to update the policy development process. The updated guidelines along with new instructions to authors will be posted here by Dec. 20 in prepartion for the 2014 policy development process
- APHA adopts 17 new policy statements: The Governing Council voted to adopt 17 new policy statements at the 2013 Annual Meeting. Upon completion of the copyediting process, the finalized policy statements will be posted on the policy statement database in Winter 2014. Until then, summaries of the new policy statements can be found in a recent APHA news release.
- Policy Statement communication guidelines: Proposals became official APHA policy statements following the Governing Council's vote of approval at the Annual Meeting. Refer to the APHA policy statement communication guidelines for more details about how the policy statements are finalized, distributed, communicated about and utilized once they have been adopted by APHA.
