Washington, D.C., May 9,
2011 — For a third consecutive year, Modern Healthcare Magazine has selected
Georges C. Benjamin, MD, FACP, FACEP (Emeritus), executive director of the
American Public Health Association, as one of “The 50 Most Influential Physician
Executives in Healthcare.” Dr. Benjamin shares this distinct honor with Carolyn
Clancy, MD, a long-standing APHA member and other public health leaders.
Dr. Clancy is the director
of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. This year’s list is composed
largely of physicians based in the greater Washington metro area, many of whom are
employed by the Department of Health and Human Services, including the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention and other federal agencies.
“Dr. Benjamin and other
public health leaders chosen for this distinguished honor have dedicated their
careers to improving the health of all Americans,” said Linda Rae Murray, MD,
MPH, president of APHA. “Their countless contributions in the public health
sector are critically important to ensuring that community-based prevention and
wellness initiatives remain front and center in the national health agenda.”
Dr. Benjamin, who has
served as the executive director of APHA since 2002, ranks among other leading
physician executives at health associations. Visit Modern Healthcare to view
the entire list.
Modern Healthcare and its
sister publication Modern Physician co-sponsor the annual “50 Most Influential Physician
Executives in Healthcare” recognition program. The winners were selected
through voting on a final ballot, for which more than 11,700 nominations were
submitted, compared to more than 11,300 from last year. The final ballot was
based on those nominations and nearly 152,000 votes were cast during the voting
period.
