APHA Selects Get Ready Scholarship Recipients

Washington, D.C., April 26, 2010 – The American Public Health Association is pleased to announce the winners of the Get Ready Scholarship, an annual award given to high school, undergraduate and graduate students who display a commitment to improving public health. The scholarship is a component of APHA’s Get Ready campaign, which works to help Americans prepare themselves, their families and their communities for all health hazards and disasters, including pandemic flu and infectious disease.

This year’s six scholarship recipients were chosen among the nearly 1,000 applications from students across the nation.  Below is the list of the students who have been selected for this year’s scholarship award.

The $500 Get Ready Scholarship aims to encourage high school and college students to focus on the importance of emergency preparedness. Winners were determined through an essay contest on the importance of emergency preparedness and disease prevention. Excerpts from the winning entries can be viewed here.

Benjamin, MD, FACP, FACEP (E), executive director of APHA. “We are pleased to be able to award these talented, young students with financial assistance to help further their education.”
