Washington, D.C., September 4, 2009 –
“The American Public Health Association (APHA) welcomes the announcement that
John Howard, M.D., has been named the new director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
“Dr. Howard, who previously served as NIOSH director from 2002 through 2008, was widely praised by both industry and labor during his earlier tenure for his efforts to protect American workers. He brings with him a wealth of experience in the field of occupational health and safety. We are confident that he will work effectively to promote the health of workers and help protect them from all potential workplace hazards.
“APHA looks forward to assisting Dr. Howard as he strives to address worker health and safety.”
