Press Registration Now Open for 2007 American Public Health Association Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

Meeting Will Explore Politics, Policy and Public Health

Washington, D.C., July 18, 2007 -- Press registration for the American Public Health Association's 135th Annual Meeting & Exposition at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., Nov. 3-7, is now open. Press registration is available at http://www.apha.org/about/news/ampressinfo/ .

 

The 2007 APHA Annual Meeting & Exposition is themed "Politics, Policy and Public Health" and will examine politics and policy from multiple perspectives, in the areas of employment, health care, security, race, reproductive rights and mental health, among other arenas.

 

Featured speakers at the opening and closing sessions include:

  • Laurie Garrett, senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations;
  • Julie Louise Gerberding, MD, MPH, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR); and
  • Lance Armstrong, founder of the Lance Armstrong Foundation and a record-holding, seven-time winner of the Tour de France.

Approximately 13,000 experts will attend to share the latest public health research and practice. The meeting will include hundreds of sessions on significant issues in public health such as tobacco, health disparities, HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, chronic disease control and prevention, and preparedness.
