APHA Press Credentials Policy
Media credentials to cover APHA meetings will be granted to journalists who are employed by accredited news organizations attending the meeting for the purpose of editorial coverage.
Journalists who have press credentials such as a press club badge should bring these credentials upon arrival for registration to the APHA Press Office. Media representatives welcome to attend include reporters, editors, writers, photographers and videographers.
Journalists who do not have press credentials such as freelancers should provide a letter of assignment in English from the publication or broadcast outlet on letterhead for which the journalist is covering the meeting or submit recent samples of their work with the journalist’s byline along with appropriate identification.
Who is eligible
Representatives from publications and other news media must represent the editorial staff. Publishers of books and magazines and advertising and marketing representatives of publications and broadcast outlets will not be registered as press.
Companies or organizations producing publications, videos and/or other products intended for marketing, advertising, financial analysis or public relations purposes may not register as media. Financial analysts, public relations personnel and/or individuals from communications, print and online promotion services may register as regular attendees. Information regarding press registrants is proprietary. APHA does not give, rent or sell current or past media registration lists.
Writers for online media outlets may register as press provided that the website provides original, editorial news coverage; editorial content is independent of advertising and sponsorship; advertising on the website is clearly identifiable as such; and any sponsors of the website are clearly identified as such and are multiple in number, i.e., no single-sponsored websites. Personal websites will not qualify for media credentials.
Bloggers must provide the URL of the blog for which they are writing prior to registering for press credentials and supply examples of posts that demonstrate recent coverage of public health topics. APHA reserves the right to grant bloggers press credentials on a case-by-case basis.
Only officially contracted APHA vendors and working journalists with APHA-approved press credentials are permitted to record video or audio during the meeting. Credentialed reporters wishing to record any proceedings, including presentations, events or interviews, must be accompanied by APHA Press Office staff or have prior approval from APHA’s Communications Department. Recording with personal audio/video equipment such as smartphones, digital cameras, audio recorders or other recording devices without proper credentials or permission is prohibited. No audio or video recording or photography is permitted on the Public Health Expo floor unless approved and accompanied by Press Office staff. How to register
All media wishing to attend APHA’s Annual Meeting and Exposition must register with the Association’s Communications Department. APHA reserves the right to grant press privileges to individuals on a case-by-case basis. Please limit media registration to no more than two individuals per outlet. Media are highly encouraged to pre-register by email.
Registered media are required to wear press badges at all times during the meeting. A reporter’s credentials may be revoked for abuse of any access or privileges obtained.
Access to APHA Press Office
Members of the media with APHA-approved press badges may have access to the APHA Press Office during hours of operation. Additional interview space may be available by appointment only. Please contact the Press Office for reservations.
