Credentialed working journalists will be provided complimentary press registration to cover the American Public Health Association’s 136th Annual Meeting & Exposition in San Diego, Calif., Oct. 25-29, 2008.
Press registration allows members of the news media access to all scientific, general, special and poster sessions; and exhibits listed in the final program, with the exception of closed and ticketed events. Additionally, APHA provides a staffed Press Office, featuring traditional amenities, including phone/fax/modem lines; a Press Work Room with PCs, a printer and Internet access; and other related services.
Journalists who have press credentials (such as a press club badge) should bring these credentials upon arrival for registration to the APHA Press Office. Media representatives welcome to attend include reporters, editors, writers, photographers and videographers.
Journalists who do not have press credentials (such as freelancers) should provide a letter of assignment from the publication or broadcast outlet on letterhead for which the journalist is covering the meeting or submit recent samples of their work with the journalist’s byline along with appropriate identification.
Representatives from publications and other news media must represent the editorial staff. Publishers of books and magazines and advertising and marketing representatives of publications and broadcast outlets will not be registered as press.
Companies or organizations producing publications, videos and/or other products intended for marketing, advertising, financial analysis or public relations purposes may not register as media. Financial analysts, public relations personnel, and/or individuals from communications, print and online promotion services may register for the APHA Annual Meeting and Exposition as regular attendees. Information regarding press registrants is proprietary. APHA does not give, rent or sell current or past media registration lists.
Only officially contracted APHA vendors and working journalists with APHA-approved press credentials are permitted to video and/or audio record any APHA Annual Meeting proceedings. Recording with personal video equipment or other technology such as cell phones or tape recorders without proper credentials or authorization is prohibited. No filming or photography is permitted on the Public Health Expo floor unless approved and accompanied by Press Office staff.
Online media outlets may register as press, provided that the following criteria are met:
- The Web site provides original, editorial news coverage;
- Editorial content must be independent of advertising and sponsorship;
- Advertising on the Web site must be clearly identifiable as such;
- Any sponsors of the Web site should be clearly identified as such and should be multiple in number (i.e., no single-sponsored Web sites); and
- Personal Web sites will not qualify for media credentials.
All media wishing to attend APHA’s Annual Meeting and Exposition must register with the Association’s Communications Department. Please limit media registration to no more than two individuals per outlet. Media are encouraged to pre-register no later than Friday, October 10, 2008.
