Major Gifts and Planned Gifts
Major Gifts and Planned Gifts are larger financial contributions that can provide immediate and future support for the APHA while meeting your current personal and financial goals.
A major gift is a contribution of $10,000 or more designated to the APHA operation, program or service you choose. Whether you choose to provide a major gift for APHA’s general fund, scholarships, awards, research, programming, advocacy, capital expenses or any other aspect of the APHA’s work that matches your passion, your major gift will not only play a crucial role in helping to strengthen the vital work of public health professionals but will ensure a healthier nation for generations to come. If you are interested in making a major gift please contact APHA's Interim Development Manager, Ms. Torrey Wasserman, MBA, MHA via phone at 202-777-2486.
Planned Gifts offer a wide variety of giving vehicles that allow you to give to the APHA during your lifetime and/or after your death, while meeting your current income needs and providing for your heirs. Planned giving is typically done in conjunction with estate planning, and is a viable option for donors of all income levels.
From a donor's perspective, planned giving is attractive for many reasons. It may allow you to make larger gifts than you otherwise could out of your current assets. Depending on how a planned gift is set up, it may also let you receive a stream of income for life, earn higher investment yield, or reduce your capital gains or estate taxes. Planned Gifts often appeal to individuals who want to benefit a charitable organization but aren’t certain how much of their assets they’ll need for themselves during their lifetimes.
The most common types of planned giving vehicles are: gift annuities charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, charitable bequests and beneficiary designations.
