Welcome to APHA's Careers in Public Health e-Newsletter

Careers in Public Health is a bi-monthly e-newsletter covering the entire spectrum of public health jobs and careers. This is an interactive newsletter designed to answer your public health career questions.

Issue #3, June 2012

When to seek professional career coaching advice? Does this sound familiar?

  • You've just graduated with your MPH and now ready to take on the world. But how do you find the jobs you hoped to find waiting for you?
  • You're great at your work, but you know that there is something more for you out there. Is it time to go back to school?
  • You want to grow and be ready for the next big challenge. You've read books on leadership and gone to classes and trainings. But you're feeling stuck and not sure what to do next.

You've tried figuring out the next steps on your own. You wish there was an independent, objective sounding board where you could talk through your ideas out loud and map out your next steps. Guess what? There is APHA's career coaches can guide you.

Expect something different than you've experienced before: while coaching happens through a conversation, working with a professional coach is unlike the talks you have with other people in your life. You'll talk. The coach will listen. And ask you insightful questions to gently push you to focus and clarify the issues, direction, and actions you take to move forward.

If you plan to attend the APHA 140th Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Francisco in October, consider signing up for a coaching session with a certified coach. Take a moment to read the coaches bio to make sure you choose the coach that's right for you. This is your opportunity to make progress towards your goals - get real breakthroughs - with less stress and more insight than you would on your own.

Can't make the meeting, that's ok! APHA offers this service online through Public Health CareerMart Career Development Center. Take a moment and see if you can find the coach that's right for you.

Congratulations public health graduates!
