Description:

The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. (AAOHN) is hosting a webcast May 21, 2008 from 2-3 p.m. EST.

The informational session will explain in detail the epidemiology and virulence of community and hospital associated MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus).

Approximately 94,360 people developed a serious MRSA infection in 2005, according to statistics released in 2007 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. Experts in the health field will offer advice on how to detect clinical signs of MRSA and appropriate methods of treatment for this infection.

The webcast will be conducted by Rachel Gorwitz, MD, MPH, a medical epidemiologist with the Division of Healthcare Quality and Promotion (DHQP) at the CDC in Atlanta.

Dr. Gorwitz is the lead author of the CDC’s guidelines for clinical management of MRSA in the community and has authored or co-authored several other publications on the topic.

Upon conclusion of this program, participants will recognize and understand opportunities for prevention of MRSA and be able to increase awareness of this infection by educating others on the seriousness of MRSA.

The registration fee for this webcast for AAOHN members is $50 if registering online, and $60 if registering via fax or by mail. For non-members, the registration fee is $75 if registering online, and $85 if registering via fax or by mail. Faxed registration forms must be received by 5 p.m. EST on Monday, May 19, 2008.

Members will earn 1 CNE contact hour for attending this session.
