Mary E. Northridge, PhD, MPH, Professor of Clinical Sociomedical Sciences at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, was re-apppointed editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Public Health (AJPH) for her fourth three-year term in July 2008. Dr. Northridge has been an editor of the AJPH since 1993. Prior to her appointment as editor-in-chief, she served as interim, deputy, and assistant editors. At Columbia University, Dr. Northridge holds a joint appointment in the College of Dental Medicine and is a faculty member in the Urban Planning Program, where she teaches a course which is cross-listed in the Department of Sociomedical Sciences titled, Interdisciplinary Planning for Health. Dr. Northridge earned a BA in chemistry with a specialty in biochemistry at the University of Virginia, an MPH in environmental health at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Rutgers University, and a PhD in epidemiology at Columbia University. Upon the completion of a post-doctoral fellowship at the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute in Piscataway, NJ, Dr. Northridge contined her research and academic career at the Harlem Health Promotion Center of Columbia University, where she still serves as a Co-Investigator. Dr. Northridge is the author of nearly 200 scientific articles and the co-editor of two volumes.
