Stephen R. Keener, MD MPH is Medical Director for the Mecklenburg County Health Department in Charlotte, North Carolina. As part of his work, he leads one of seven regional public health preparedness and response teams under North Carolina’s Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response.
Dr. Keener is a graduate of Davidson College and received his medical degree from Duke University. He also holds a Masters in Public Health in Health Policy and Administration from the School of Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Dr. Keener is board certified in both Family Practice and in Public Health & General Preventive Medicine, is a past president of the North Carolina affiliate, and is active in numerous professional organizations. He has been a member of the APHA Health Administration Section for 18 years, and the Committee on Affiliates for the past 6 years.
