Innovations in Community Prevention
Breakout Sessions 2004.0 & 2009.0 Wednesday, June 27 - 10:30AM-12:30PM A repeat of this session will be offered from 3:00PM-5:00PM
The past several years have witnessed new investments in community prevention efforts focused on systems, policy, and environmental change strategies, as exemplified by the federal Communities Putting Prevention to Work and Community Transformation Grant programs, the as well as many other place-based efforts. Building on decades of research demonstrating the impact of systems and environmental change on health behaviors and health outcomes, these new initiatives are redefining community prevention and health promotion. This session will present lessons learned from these new efforts about what works and what doesn’t, discuss the current evidence underpinning these efforts, and identify where more evidence is needed.
